Extinction shakes up roster for Stage 3
Extinction sign Rene "k1ng" Rangel, Landon "Vision" Monteferrante, and Noah "alba" McTavish. “xomba,” Aidan “NenWhy” McHenry, Thimo "TwolzZ" Wilts, Cameron "wub" Johnson, and Coach Sam "Natdoekje" Wilks depart.
Although the team finished 6th during the regular season, Extinction surprised the entire North American region in Stage 2 by taking NTMR to two Map 5 series and finishing their playoff run in 5th-6th place. Community spirits remained high despite the results, but going into Stage 3, the team is undergoing big changes to its lineup.
Extinction had one of the more turbulent midseason breaks, parting ways with four players and a member of their coaching staff. Coach Sam "Natdoekje" Wilks announced his retirement from esports shortly before the start of the stage, while tank player Thimo "TwolzZ" Wilts also left the roster. However, Extinction’s biggest losses come as former Paris Eternal DPS player Cameron "wub" Johnson retires from competition in order to pursue a future in Marvel Rivals, and fellow DPS player “xomba” departs to join Sakura Esports. The team will also be playing without rising support player Aidan “NenWhy” McHenry, who, after playing with this core throughout 2025, is now joining NTMR.
To recoup these losses, Extinction is signing several players from the FACEIT League Season 5 - EMEA Masters. DPS Rene "k1ng" Rangel from Goud Guys ANM (formerly Anomaly) and support Noah "alba" McTavish from Team Vision will join alongside former Luminosity Gaming and NTMR DPS player Landon "Vision" Monteferrante. These new signings mark k1ng’s return to North America, alba’s first stint in the region, and Vision’s comeback after spending most of his time on NTMR’s bench behind Lethal.
This North American team is making significant changes across nearly every role. With these new additions, Extinction is taking a major risk that could destabilise the rest of their season. While changes were necessary after their 2-5 finish in Stage 2, much of the competition around them has signed away the best parts of their roster, forcing Extinction to take bold gambles on the rest of their season.
Extinction’s first match of Stage 3 kicks off on Sept. 6, 2025 when they face the DhillDucks. The team will soon find out whether their roster overhaul will allow them to rise above their 6th-place finish—or if they’re destined for a repeat performance.
